[MEMORY # 15]
Blackmail by Carving Knife. Dipping in flour and soot to replace the stone eagle. (significant negative, shareable)
The boy came back with a small piece of grey stone. His eyes were red.
"I saw two soldiers carrying Jon Dumpling into the Palace," he said. "He was white as my apron. The Court Physician was with him."
"Fetch me the flour," said the Head Cook. "This Griffin is too dark."
"But--"
"FLOUR!" bellowed the Cook.
He cut the twine and unwrapped Timi. Her head drooped and she made no effort to get away as the Cook rubbed her with flour. He stood back and looked at her with his head on one side.
"Now listen, Griffin. You will take the place of the stone eagle on the Great Gate. The Emperor of China will be here at twelve o'clock and there is no time for the royal stonemasons to carve another eagle. The Queen must be deeply distressed that the Emperor of China should have to enter through the broken gate. It is an unheard-of insult. Yet it is impossible that he should use a smaller gate. But I, who am only the Head Cook, will solve the problem. You are too white, Griffin, too white. Boy, bring me some soot from the chimney."
The boy brought a saucer of soot.
"Good! Now I rub this in--a little here, a little there. Now you are a grey stone Griffin. The colour is perfect, and the silver chain will be mine tonight."
"No," said Timi.
This man had been Jon Dumpling's enemy and she hated him.
"NO?" The bald head stooped. "And do you not know that Jon Dumpling made a last apple pie?" whispered the Head Cook. "It is behind that locked door and I have the key. I shall lift the lid and throw in one handful of salt and one of pepper and then what will people say of Jon Dumpling's last pie? They will say Jon Dumpling played a cruel trick on the Queen--that she gave him a silver chain and he repaid her by shaming her in front of the Emperor of China."
Timi shivered.
"Now, Griffin, will you do what I tell you?"
"Y-yes," said Timi.
+ Plus 500 depression points--except these will mostly be negated because she has memories of this situation being more or less resolved. Jon Dumpling was okay, etc. etc.
+ After taking this memory, Timi will have a much smaller capacity for emotional blackmail! She will take a good deal of physical pain over it. Which...will change her attitude during bad games.
+ This memory is also important because she reacts with hatred to something, rather than just fear and cowardice! Hate is pretty foreign to her in canon before then, and Aather!Timi hasn't hated before. O...oops she accidentally darker emotions.
