[MEMORY # 12]

* Defying the Black Grandfather to stay with Jon. (significant neutral)

"And now," the Black Grandfather looked directly at Timi with his old, fierce eyes. "Now, Timi, since you can fly like other Griffins, you will return with us to the high forests."

Timi shut her eyes.

"N-n-no," she whispered.

"No?"

"N-no."

"You mean you will not come back to us?"

"J-Jon D-Dumpling saved m-my life. And I-I want to s-stay with him."

"So!" rasped the Black Grandfather, and his voice was like the north wind among the rocks. "So this youngest of all the Griffins dares to say 'No' to me. For three hundred years I, the Black Grandfather, have led the Griffins and no one has ever defied me. Yet this miserable, trembling babe among Griffins, this quarter-grown fledgling sparrow of a Griffin--dares to say 'No.' But now we have had enough nonsense. Come, Timi."

"No," said Timi, and she opened her eyes and looked straight at the Black Grandfather.

There was dead silence. No one in the crowd spoke or moved. The Griffins watched, like stone Griffins, from the turrets and chimneys. For ten long seconds the Black Grandfather and Timi stared at each other. Then the Black Grandfather turned away and began, casually, to peck at a feather. And suddenly he was laughing. His great beak opened, his great wings flapped helplessly and his great tail lashed from side to side.

+ HELLO THERE BLACK GRANDFATHER!
+ PLUS FIVE THOUSAND PUNCH OF COURAGE AND COPING AND NOT RUNNING AWAY FROM HER PROBLEMS!!!
+ The statement that she finally can fly is blurred out of this memory.
