[MEMORY # 14]

* Jon's failed attempts to teach her to fly. (trivial negative)

"Tomorrow when I have baked all the bread," said Jonathan, "we will go into the forest and you shall exercise your wings. It would, perhaps, be good if you could learn to fly."

The days passed quickly for Timi. She learnt to dust the little house and often helped Jon Dumpling in the bakehouse. Nearly every afternoon they climbed up among the trees and she exercised her wings. At first Jonathan had taken her deep into the forest, and had set her on a low branch and said, "Now try and fly to me," and she had sidled up and down for ten minutes, and then jumped with her eyes tightly shut and her wings folded. Several times she bruised herself and once she cut her foot.

"We must try something else," said Jonathan. After that he carried a ladder to the smallest apple tree and hung an apple dumpling on the top.

"Now fly up and get it," he said.

But Timi padded round and round the tree, until she could bear the sight of the dumpling no longer, and then with the help of her long tail, climbed up from branch to branch and easily reached the dumpling. Jonathan laughed.

"I didn't know you could climb, Timi, we must try something else."

+ Bawww Jon so good to me ;o;
+ Just a extra heaping dose of 'wrugh' about her useless wings.
